Come In for a Neck Lift If You’re Experiencing Drooping Neck Skin

Aging creates sagging skin and wrinkles. You might be healthy and fit in general but still have loose skin on some parts of your body. Drooping neck skin is an unwelcome side effect of aging. The sagging skin around a person’s neck can make them look older than they actually are.

A graceful neckline adds to your overall appearance by portraying a sense of refinement. Although a lot of people tend to neglect the appearance of their neck, the neck is among the first places that start showing signs of aging.

Drooping neck skin can be a result of a number of things. If you’ve recently lost a lot of weight in a rapid time frame, you might have loose skin that was unable to shrink back down. You might also have drooping skin as a result of sun damage and aging.

While we usually do a good job taking care of the skin on our face, we sometimes forget about our neck. If you’re having issues with sagging neck skin, a neck lift might just be what you’re looking for. It removes drooping skin and excess fat, tightens sagging neck muscles, and leaves you with a more youthful-looking neck area.

How to Prepare for a Neck Lift

Many patients come in for this surgery, and it’s known to be a safe procedure. You must be able to make certain changes to your lifestyle during the weeks leading up to the procedure. You’ll need to completely cut out alcohol and sugary and fatty foods. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin should also be avoided in order to prevent complications.

Tobacco tends to interfere with the body’s natural healing process, so smokers and tobacco users should be ready to refrain from smoking in the weeks leading up to and the weeks after the surgery. You will be given clear pre and post-op instructions when you come in for your consultation before your surgery.

How Does the Procedure Work?

The surgery typically lasts for two to three hours and is virtually straightforward. You will be given either a mild sedative with a local anesthetic or general anesthesia. Your choice of sedation depends on you and your surgeon.

As the details of every individual case vary, so do the details of each surgery. While some patients achieve desired results through simple neck liposuction, other patients require the surgeon to remove excess skin and tighten the underlying muscles in the neck for a more youthful look.

After the anesthesia takes effect, incisions will be made in order to get access to the underlying tissues. If loose skin and drooping muscle tissue are being addressed, incisions will likely be made around the ears and/or under the chin. The muscles are tightened using internal sutures, and muscle tissue may be strategically removed as needed. Once the procedure is complete, the skin is redraped and the incisions are sutured closed.
