Recontour Your Chest with Male Breast Reduction
Men sometimes experience a condition called gynecomastia, in which extra tissue on the male chest causes it to develop the appearance of male breasts. There are several factors that can cause gynecomastia.
For some people, it might be a genetic predisposition, while in other people, it may be the side effect of taking drugs such as steroids that cause an imbalance of the male and female sex hormones in the body.
In either case, gynecomastia can affect a person’s appearance and cause a lack of confidence. Male breasts can be removed through a procedure known as male breast reduction. This operation can recontour your chest and enhance your appearance, giving you the confidence that you need.
Male Breast Reduction
Male breasts are caused due to a swelling of the breast tissues when the levels of the female sex hormone are higher than the levels of the male sex hormone in the body. A male breast reduction involves the removal of the excess fat and glandular breast tissue in the chest area in order to give a contoured appearance.
How Is It Performed?
The male breast reduction can involve either liposuction or excision, depending on the composition of the tissues in the chest. In some cases, a combination of both techniques is used.
Liposuction is used to remove excess stubborn fat. When liposuction is being performed, a number of small incisions are made along the chest and a thin cannula is inserted through these incisions. Using a vacuum, excess fat is suctioned out through the cannula.
Excision is used in cases where the breast tissue and excess skin must be removed. The excision technique also allows the nipples to be repositioned and the areolae to be reduced.
How to Prepare
Meeting with Dr. Kaye for a consultation is the first step to resolving gynecomastia. During this consultation, you’ll discuss your goals with him and learn more information about the procedure. You’ll also be able to look at before-and-after photos from past patients to ensure that the results are right for you. Results will vary from case to case, but this can give you a rough idea of what to expect.
If you happen to be a smoker, you will be asked to avoid smoking during the weeks leading up to the surgery. You will also be required to refrain from taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
What to Expect After the Surgery
Immediately after the procedure, you are likely to notice some swelling around the area where the surgery has been performed. This is a temporary side effect of the surgery and will gradually come down. Ice packs can help bring down the swelling faster. Patients are recommended to take complete rest and to refrain from physical exertion.
Complete results are visible once all the swelling has gone down. This will take approximately three weeks but varies from person to person. After three weeks, you can result your normal routine.
