Moles Can Often be Removed in one Appointment
Moles are a natural element in human skin. They tend to occur when skin cells grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. These cells are often rich with melanocytes that produce melanin, which is what gives skin its natural color. As a result, most moles darken after exposure to the sun. An ugly or otherwise unappealing mole that appears on a prominent part of the face or hands can leave you feeling self-conscious.
Fortunately, the cosmetic surgeons at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center of Kentucky can often remove an unappealing mole in a single outpatient session.
Small moles can sometimes be shaved away to be smooth with the surrounding skin before they are cauterized. If a small mole extends deeply into the skin your surgeon might use a special laser to penetrate the deeper layers of the dermis and eradicate any mole cells within.
More modest sized moles that also penetrate deep into the skin, might need to be excised and removed. Then the surrounding skin is pulled in to tighten the area. Once everything has healed there should be little to no visible scarring.
While the skin in the area is healing, you will likely need to apply a topical antibiotic cream, to prevent infection. Your surgeon will discuss any other aftercare considerations with you after the procedure.
If you have an unappealing mole on your face or another part of your body, and you’re thinking about having it removed, you should call Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center of Kentucky’s offices in Hopkinsville, Kentucky at 866.234.0470 to set up a consultation.
