Using Fat Injections to Fill Out the Face

The aging process takes a toll on a person’s skin. It loses its elasticity and suppleness and starts sagging. Wrinkles and fine lines begin to appear. One of the most prominent and visible places where this happens is the face. No matter how well you apply your makeup, you cannot completely hide age lines and wrinkles.

One option is to get a facelift surgery done. Those who do not want to go under the knife can opt for fat-transfer injections. These can help fill out the face and reduce these signs of aging without long periods of required downtime.

How Do Fat Injections Work?

Fat injections not only reduce the signs of aging on your face but can also be used to fill in depressions and scars. A donor area is selected, usually the buttocks, thighs, or lower abdomen. These areas typically have a lot of excess fatty tissue. The donor area is numbed and then Dr. Kaye gently extracts excess fat.

Dr. Kaye purifies this fat so that all excess materials get removed. Finally, the recipient areas on the face are numbed and the fat is evenly injected. This procedure may be repeated multiple times depending on the degree of change that the patient wants to achieve.

One major positive factor of this procedure is that because the donor fat is taken from your own body, there is a much lower risk of rejection and allergic reactions.

Almost 65 percent of the injected fat gets absorbed back into the body during the initial few months after the treatment. Around 35 percent of the injected fat stays put in the recipient area. Because of this, a higher volume of fat will typically be transferred to compensate. Usually, at least three to four treatment sessions will be required for fat transfer to have lasting effects.

After Your Treatment

After a few treatments, your skin will have more volume and will look more youthful. Your results will be apparent for many years to come. If you notice that the results are fading, you need to take another injection.

You will experience some swelling, bruising, and redness in both the donor areas and the recipient areas, but these will go away with time. Recovery takes anywhere between ten days to two weeks. Dr. Kaye will give you post-operative care instructions to help your face heal faster, so make sure you follow them carefully.

Make sure you consult with Dr. Kaye in advance so that you can understand the procedure in detail. Decide on where you will be getting the injections, and, if possible, speak to people who have already taken the injections. Go into it as prepared as possible so that you can avoid any unwanted surprises during and after the procedure.
