Chin Implants for a Prominent Profile

A mentoplasty, also known as a chin implant, is a surgical procedure designed to accent your chin and give you a prominent profile. It’s not uncommon for your plastic surgeon to recommend a nose job to also help accent your new profile. Having both procedures done at the same time can help redefine and accentuate your face in one procedure.

A chin implant surgery usually requires you to be fully sedated. You will need to arrange to have someone drive you and help you at home while you get back on your feet.

During the procedure the surgeon makes an incision in the natural crease under your chin. In some cases, they might make the incision inside the mouth to reduce the chances of any visible scarring. The surgeon will then gently stretch your skin and underlying tissues to create a small space for the implant. Then a custom implant is inserted into the pocket and the incision is closed.

If the incisions are under your chin you will need to wear the dressing over the area for two to three days. It’s natural for you to experience some tenderness in the area as the tissues adjust to the new implant. Your surgeon might prescribe painkillers or anti-inflammatory medications to help manage any discomfort. Eating soft foods will help reduce discomfort caused from eating hard and crunchy foods.
