What is Liposculpture?

Over the course of the last 20 years liposuction has grown in popularity and availability for people that want to have excess fat removed from a specific area. Liposuction can also be used to sculpt and reshape certain body parts in a procedure known as liposculpture.

Depending on the part of the body liposuction is intended to remove a large bulk of fat. In liposculpture, a small amount of fat is removed in a way that helps blend in and define the shape of the body, while matching with the underlying muscles.

Dr. Kaye will recommend sedation techniques based on the location and length of the procedure. Sometimes deep sedation is not required and patients will only be given a local anesthetic.

The surgeon begins by making a small incision. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted and gently worked back and forth to loosen specific fatty tissues. The surgeon then removes the loosened fat with a surgical vacuum.

The total recovery period will vary based on location and just how much tissue was removed.
