Mastopexy Lifts the Breasts for a More Youthful Appearance

Sagging breasts are a sign of aging in women. Mastopexy is a surgery carried out to raise a woman’s sagging breasts to a perkier and more youthful position.

This is done by tightening the skin of the area and removing excess skin. It also involves shifting the NAC, or Nipple-Areolar Complex, higher up the chest area.

In a breast-lift procedure, the main consideration is the tissue viability of the NAC. This is what helps re-establish the aesthetic proportions of the bust and allows the breast to retain its sensitivity with regard to breastfeeding and lactation.

Good Breast-Lift Candidates

If you have decided to come in for a mastopexy, you will need to arrange a consultation with Dr. Kaye. This will help you and Dr. Kaye determine whether or not you are the right fit for the procedure.

In general, to be considered as a good candidate, you must possess good health without any major conditions that can interfere with proper healing. Smokers are not considered good candidates and will be required to quit prior to coming in for the procedure.

The Benefits of Mastopexy Surgery

The main benefit of the breast lift is that it eliminates the problem of breast sagging and restores a youthful and perky look. By reshaping the breasts, breast lifts can also address asymmetrical breast shapes.

You will notice positive changes in your appearance after undergoing the procedure, and you may find that your clothing fits you better.

Your Breast-Lift Incisions

Breast lifts involve different patterns of incisions based on the degree of breast sagging and the amount of tissue that will need to be removed.

In some cases, the donut, or periareolar, incision can be used. This involves the creation of two concentric circles around the areola. The tissue between the circles is removed and the remaining skin is tightened. This is ideal for a smaller amount of tissue removal.

For more tissue removal, a lollipop incision is needed. This involves the creation of a circle around the areola and a vertical line down the breast to meet the breast fold.

For even more tissue removal, the best option is the anchor incision. This option is perfect for treatment of dramatic sagging. It involves the creation of the lollipop incision, followed by a curving horizontal incision across the breast fold.

The Recovery Process

Dressings or bandages will be applied to the breast-lift incisions after the procedure is completed. A thin and tiny tube will be placed temporarily under the skin to help with the draining of the excess fluid or blood that has collected.

The recovery process for a breast lift can last a few months. An elastic bandage or gentle support bra should be worn during your recovery process to help reduce post-surgical swelling and to offer support to your healing breasts. You will have to abstain from alcohol and cigarettes in order to ensure that your skin tissues are able to heal properly.

Make sure you talk to Dr. Kaye about caring for your breasts. Also, make sure to take the prescribed medications as directed to help prevent infection and speed up healing.
